Physical Description:

It is not so much his appearance than the manner in which he carries himself that makes Vexen intimidating – the air of utter confidence and complete disdain of all that surrounds him, his features forever wrinkled in a mask of utter scorn. Tall, taller than what most would expect out of one devoted to science, the Freezing Scholar looms over nearly half of the Organization’s members, his formidable height only offset by his rather diminutive weight and the fact that he has the tendency to slouch unless provoked.

Aside from his height and his peculiar choice in weaponry, there are few things that are truly eye catching about the scientist, his appearance not the most comely in comparison to his compatriots – flaxen hair simply left to alone to hang where it will and facial features set in an unappealing and seemingly perpetual scowl of contempt.

Personality:

Stoic and generally impassive to everything around him, Vexen is the near living definition of apathy – wholly disinterested in the suffering or emotional outrages of others, he cloaks himself behind a veil of ice as powerful as the magic he wields, not even bothering wasting his time or energies with the complexities of pretending to have a heart or possess emotions. He has neither and sees no point to the games of the mimicry of humanity that the Nobodies seem to enjoy playing unless there is immediate gain or he cane foresee some sort of great benefit from it. Prideful and serious almost to a fault, it generally takes a great deal of provocation to ruffle the scientist’s proverbial feathers; only becoming truly agitated and snappish when either his abilities or work are doubted by others, be they fellow Order members or no – his words taking on a far more poisonous edge than his traditional biting sarcasm.

And despite how chilly he behaves towards the other members of the Organization, Vexen’s loyalty is nigh unquestionable and he willingly follows any directive given in the name of their coalition.

Weapon of Choice:

Courroux de Hiver – a magically enchanted kite shield that enables Vexen to absorb all spells under the element of ice, using the strength of the spell to heal him rather than injure.

Powers:

Blizzard- A short range, minimal damage ice spell; useful for inflicting damage at the expenditure of a small portion of mana. Targets only one opponent.
Blizzara- Ice spell with about the same range and only slightly greater damage ratio than Blizzard, capable to targeting multiple opponents, damage is spread by main target receiving the most damage, the rest receiving minor injury, provided that they are all within the ideal range – that being a four foot cone, tip being at the caster. In exchange for being able to injure more than one person, mana is consumed at a greater rate.
Blizzaga- The strongest ice spell within Vexen’s arsenal and the one that requires the most consumption of his magic – capable of targeting multiple targets, applying equal damage to all caught within the spell’s six foot circular range.
Glacial Spike- An aggressive track spell that follows one target with a series of stalagmites crafted of magical ice until it either manages to hit or is avoided (usually after the appearance of a dozen of so of the ice pillars.)
Freezer- A spell designed for the sole purpose of slowing, or paralyzing completely, one opponent by encasing either their entire body or whatever limb the it manages to hit entirely in ice.

Character Background:

If there ever had been a time in which Vexen’s persona could have been considered even remotely humane, it would have been in his younger years under the apprenticeship of the Radiant Garden’s king, Ansem the Wise; who, in turn, was one of the multiverse’s greatest scientists. It was during that time, when Even, his given name, along with five other pupils, he being the fourth enlisted of the six, was taken beneath the wing of the curious king, their task – to unravel the mysteries of the heart. To unlock its secrets and convert it into something mathematical, something controllable.

And for a time, that was what they studied. Tinkering and playing the hearts of others along with themselves, their researches taking them across the vast spectrum of the human mind until an obsession with darkness and the power it could give took hold within hearts of the six students. Ansem, of course, was revolved by the darkness, turning away from the immorality of the experiments and going so far as to forbid his disciples from continuing – not that they deterred them in any manner. Led forward by the first of the king’s students, Xehanort, Even, along with the others soon abandoned their own hearts, casting themselves into darkness so that they might obtain a higher power, something far greater than their own mortal limits would ever allow.

Bereft of their hearts, the pupils all in turn became Nobodies – empty shells of people, lacking all but the physical characteristics that tied them to being human. No longer hampered by the bounds of a heart or conscience, the group, which oddly enough still retained their one-time human appearance, soon coalesced into a more structured organization than merely fellow students – the Organization XIII, headed by Xehanort’s Nobody, Xemnas– seven additional humanoid Nobodies joining into the ranks. And like Xemnas, the other Organization members soon dropped their human names, taking upon an alias formed of the anagram of their original names with an added ‘x’ to tie them together as well as a number denoting their initiation into the group.

Even, now Vexen or number four (Roman numeric), continued his research of Ansem’s experiment within the illusionary, computerized world of Faciatta– only this time with a renewed purpose.. to discover a way to regain their hearts; because, even with the additional power granted by the lack of it, each and every one of the Nobodies felt the sharp loss, the feeling of being incomplete without their hearts. And if he had been chilly to his comrades before, his relationships with those outside his circle of compatriots notwithstanding, Four became even more reclusive – his icy demeanor becoming something palpable as the air around him fluctuates in temperature with his mood, giving full meaning behind his unwilling nickname of the Freezing Scholar.
